Mustard has been used as a spice since biblical times. It is also present in many foreign cuisines like Indian food. Oil from mustard seeds is used for cooking and other purposes. Here are some of the health benefits of consuming mustard.
Weight loss: mustard, sometimes called “wonder seed” contains Thiamin, Niacin, Riboflavin and B complex vitamins that facilitate weight loss.
Anti-aging: the carotene, vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin K are antioxidants and help the skin to remain young.
Prevention of gastrointestinal cancer: mustard prevents stomach and intestinal cancer and halts the growth of tumor or cancerous cells in the body.
Relieves Muscular pain: mustard contains essential minerals like selenium and magnesium that reduce muscle sensitivity, give energy and heat to the body and relieve muscular and joint pains. Applying mustard directly on muscles or taking a bath with mustard seeds helps relieve joint and muscular pains.
Reduces body Cholesterol: mustard contains vitamin B3 that facilitates blood circulation, prevents blood clotting and reduces the amount of cholesterol within the body.
Hair growth: when the oil is extracted from mustard seeds, the carotene contained within the seeds turns into vitamin A which is essential for hair growth.
