The recent outbreak of the Corona virus has spread devastatingly and even though its spread compared to other continents is low, six countries from the African continent have reported victims from the disease. Iran is one of the countries with the highest risk with thousands infected. Surprisingly the Iranian administration has released 54,000 prisoners from fears of them getting infected. Many members of the parliament have also reported on being infected.
In Europe, Italy has reported high spread of the corona virus. It is said that Italian travelers are spreading the disease to other countries in Europe and Africa. 14 states in the USA, where many Ethiopians live, have reported victims of the corona virus. The virus is expected to spread to the neighboring states soon. With 127 people infected and 9 dead in Seattle, Washington State, the Trump administration claims that the spread of the disease is controllable. Long lines at the supermarkets have been witnessed all over America. Cotsco supermarket in Texas has reported shortage of water and soft tissue as people are stacking up in fear of being locked in their homes. Similarly, in Australia, shelves at supermarkets are being emptied as people are buying supplies early.
Dr. Tewdros Adhanom, the first African to lead the world health organization, is under much stress due to the outbreak. BBC has called Dr. Tewdros a firm leader who is yet under a huge pressure. The world health organization makes daily reports on the number of victims of the corona virus and meets up with the most affected countries. Organizations following up on the outbreak have criticized Dr. Tewdros and are holding petitions to remove him from his position. They claim the disease could have been controlled earlier but the doctor who discovered this new strand of virus and posted on social media was threatened in to silence by the Chinese government and after meeting with the Chinese administration, Dr. Tewdros made the mistake of appreciating the Chinese government’s actions to control the outbreak. He is also accused of being ignorant towards the disease.
Up until now, 3200 people have died from the virus and 92,000 have been infected. No cures have been found for the disease but many scientists are working on it. Israeli scientists have reported that they are close to finding the cure. It is recommended that people must wash their hands from 20- 30 seconds before touching anything after they get home. They must also stay away from infected people by at least a meter.
